The Church that Wants to Kill People

June 16, 2019June 17, 2019 ~ David Mercer ~ Leave a comment

May 29, 2019 ~ David Mercer ~ 2 Comments

Standing Apart from the Crowd

February 23, 2019June 29, 2019 ~ David Mercer ~ 8 Comments

One of My Biggest Regrets

July 11, 2018July 11, 2018 ~ David Mercer ~ 9 Comments

I later apologized for my anger but every week when I had to see that guy in church, I had to resist the urge to grab him by the lapels, pin him to the wall, and express my feelings.

I Won’t Stay Quiet

October 22, 2017October 22, 2017 ~ David Mercer ~ 3 Comments

The church claims to be an instrument of truth. How do people find truth if they are not allowed to ask, seek, and knock? Is the institution really so fragile that it can’t handle my voicing my thoughts?

Charlottesville–What Do I Say?

August 13, 2017 ~ David Mercer ~ 3 Comments

I want to say to the white supremacists, “Yes, you have the right to say what you think and so do I. So I also want to say, “You should be ashamed. Shut the hell up!”

A Member of the Intellectually Elite

I may be one of the intellectually elite, but that doesn’t mean I can make a sandwich at the deli.

Thank You For Your Service

At the polls, we tried to serve the people quickly and keep the line moving. Yet as fast as we worked, we still connected with people as we assisted them in exercising their right to vote.

Bullies in a Civilized Society

Most of the thousands of people who came through the line were quite pleasant but there were a handful who were hostile. One fellow yelled at a coordinator because he didn’t like her tone. Another actually slapped an attendant in her face with his ballot.

Friday Night Adventures

It was my favorite evening of the week, where I sat alone in my quiet room, filling up on food and stories of heroes, horses, humor, spaceships, and sex.

Where Does a Preacher Buy Condoms? Part 2

I’m trying to use a little taste and discretion in my efforts to practice safe sex and you’d think the Almighty would cut me a break.

But nooooooo….
